WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING

Prerequisites

To take part of our lifeguarding class the student must be over the age of 15 and must already have a valid New York State Department of Health Lifeguarding certificate or a NYS DOH equivalent.

550 yards of free and/or breaststroke

A surface dive to a depth of 7–10 feet, returning to the surface with a 10-pound object, swimming 20 yards back to the starting point

Treading water without the use of arms for 2 minutes

Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence.

On the first day of the lifeguarding class the student should bring:

1) Bathing suit

2) Towel

3) Snorkel

​4) Snorkel Mask

5) Fins

Optional:

1) Food

Free Items for all students:

1) CPR mask key chain

2) Water during all classes

PURPOSE OF WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING

The purpose of the Waterfront Skills module is to teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in non-surf, open-water areas found at public parks, resorts, summer camps and campgrounds.

MORE INFORMATION

The Waterfront Skills certificate is only valid when accompanied by a current New York State Department of Health certificate for lifeguarding.

The Program is managed by a Lifeguard Training Instructor.

By taking this class the student will be able to lifeguard in any open water non-surf environment such as lakes, rivers and reservoirs

Upon completion of the lifeguarding course the student will receive a New York State Department Of Health approved Waterfront Lifeguard certification via email.

These certifications will include:

Waterfront Lifeguarding (2-year certification)

All our classes are on the New York State Department Of Health approved list

Digital certificate available upon successful completion of course.

We teach this NYS DOH approved Waterfront Lifeguarding course in Nassau County, Suffolk County Long Island and in Brooklyn NY.
